You are watching: When does lent end 2018

It is a time for some to give up a a bad habit, or luxury such as chocolates or sweets.

However, the period is almost coming to an end, here is everything you need to know about Lent.

When does Lent end?

Lent comes to an end this week on Thursday, March 29 for the Roman Catholic Church. For the Eastern Orthodox Church Lent ends on Friday, March 30.

The fasting period begins on Ash Wednesday, which follows Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as Pancake Day.

Christianity.org.uk says: "Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Many Christians attend church on that Wednesday, particularly to reflect on what it means to be human, and to seek forgiveness for the wrong they have done."

This year Lent began on February 14. However, the date varies from year to year, starting in either late February or early March.
